Daily Dal (Masoor dal) from Meera Sodha’s Made in India cookbook. This was our first time trying this recipe and we will definitely make it again. It’s mild and savory, the kind of dish I would offer to somebody who doesn’t necessarily like Indian food.
I served the dal with chapatis (whole wheat flat bread) from the same cookbook. It’s a nice chapati recipe. Our 5-year-old rolled them out and they cooked up exactly as described.
The kids both surprisingly loved this dinner. They usually reject all Indian food on sight, so that’s a big deal. The leftovers are great, too.
